Miyana Evans is a Program Coordinator for Get Smart B4 U Get Sexy at Black Women for Wellness and a full time Toy Poodle mom. She was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles and attended UCLA where she received a Bachelor’s degree in African American Studies, another in Sociology, and minored in Film and Television. While there, she immersed herself in work designed to bridge the gap between low income neighborhoods and higher education. This led to her working directly in LAUSD high schools through UCLA’s Afrikan Student Unions, S.H.A.P.E program, her connecting underserved communities with educational resources with UCLA’s Strategic Partnerships & Community Engagement, and eventually becoming a College Advisor. Her overall passion for empowering and uplifting the youth to be advocates for themselves and their communities led her to work with Black Women for Wellness’ Get Smart B4 U Get Sexy comprehensive sex ed program. With years of experience directly working with teens, hearing their concerns, and witnessing the overall lack of information regarding sex and safe practices, she believes that it is important now more than ever to encourage the youth to make smart decisions about sex and have full autonomy over their bodies.
